I'm an emerging artist, with a background in traditional oil painting and oriented toward the impressionist realism of the Boston School and the plein air painters of Cape Anne. Over the years I’ve drawn further inspiration from the world of illustration, concept art, and contemporary realism. In response to the losses, uncertainty, and changes wrought by Covid-19 I've focused my practice toward portraiture and a series of iterative nocturne vignettes. The crisis drew my eye toward the faces of friends and strangers, and the doleful serenity of the city at night. I searched for contingent beauties where they could be found while discovering my admiration for the sensibilities of Whistler, Blakelock, Hopper, and Clarice Beckett.
